Description
„Pope Sile“ is part of the series of three called „Venice“

The „Venice“ series consists of a coffee table „Pope Piave“, a console „Pope Brenta“ and a side table „Pope Sile“
The sediment accumulation of the three north Italian rivers Piave, Brenta and Sile did form the first settlement area of Venice in the 5th century.
The design of the „Venice“ series is an interpretation of this land development.
Seen from an areal perspective the accumulations of stones embedded in a blue sea formed by glas from Murano allegorize the genesis of Venice.
These stone accumulations are made of Istrian lime stones which was an important Material for the expansion of Venice, because it is especially resistant to the sea water. The Venetian started to import it after conquering Istria in the 12th Century.
