Gaga
Dada
13.9. - 28.9.2024
Galerie Zippenfenig in Vienna invited visitors to interact with Dada-inspired objects as designers and artists explore the playful spirit of Gaga Dada.
This exhibition showcased works by various designers and artists who draw on the traditions of Dada, Fluxus, and New German Design from the 1980s. The rejection of conservative attitudes and strict functionalism—central to these movements—is approached here through playful experimentation. A light bulb, for instance, seamlessly transforms into a plant through a clever shift in context, with a wooden trestle acting as its gardener. Some objects only become functional through interaction—for example, a square foam sculpture that invites hands-on engagement, shaping itself in the process.
Interactivity was key to the full exhibition experience, challenging the conventional, passive relationship between viewer and object. One might say: here, art does not belong only to those who create it, but also to those who see it.
